Commercial Law and Preliminaries of Auditing · Ch 7 — Cyber Law

What This Chapter Covers

What This Chapter Covers

The internet has moved almost every kind of commercial activity — buying, selling, banking, signing agreements — onto computer networks. The law had to catch up with this shift, and Cyber Law is the body of rules that now governs activity carried out through computers, the internet, and other electronic/digital means. This chapter — Unit 7, Part A (Commercial Law) of the WBCHSE Commercial Law and Preliminaries of Auditing (CLPA) syllabus, worth 5 of the 40 marks in the Semester II paper — covers what Cyber Law is and why it exists, the key terms every student of e-commerce and e-banking needs to know, the scope of Cyber Law, cyber safety practices, and an overview of India's Information Technology Act, 2000.

This is a WBCHSE-only elective with no CBSE/NCERT equivalent, but the underlying ideas connect directly to concepts CBSE/NCERT Business Studies and Informatics Practices both introduce — e-commerce, e-banking, and digital transactions — which this chapter examines in more legal depth.

The Semester II paper for this unit allocates its full 5 marks to Short Answer Questions only — one 2-mark question and one 3-mark question; no Descriptive (5-mark) question is set for this unit. This chapter's first 2-mark and first 3-mark question below are built to that exact real-paper shape; the additional Short Answer and Case Problem questions that follow are supplementary practice, clearly marked as such.
