Q.List some of the cloud-based services that you are using at present.
Any service where your data or software lives on a provider's servers and reaches you over the Internet is a cloud service — e-mail, online storage, online documents, streaming and video-conferencing are the ones students use daily.
The idea. Cloud computing means using computing resources — storage, software, processing — that are hosted on remote servers and delivered on demand over the Internet, instead of being installed on your own machine. Once you look for that pattern, you find you are already a heavy cloud user. (This is an open-ended question, so the list below is a model answer — your own list should reflect the services you actually use.)
Cloud services a typical student uses today
| Service | What it does | Cloud category |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail / Outlook.com | E-mail stored and processed on provider servers | SaaS |
| Google Drive / OneDrive / Dropbox / iCloud | Files stored online, synced across devices | Cloud storage |
| Google Docs / Sheets / Office 365 | Create and edit documents in the browser; nothing installed locally | SaaS |
| Google Photos | Automatic photo/video backup | Cloud storage |
| YouTube / Netflix / Spotify | Audio/video streamed from cloud data centres | SaaS (streaming) |
| WhatsApp / Telegram backup | Chat history backed up to Google Drive / iCloud | Cloud storage |
| Google Meet / Zoom / Microsoft Teams | Online classes and meetings hosted on cloud servers | SaaS |
| DIKSHA / e-learning portals | Course content hosted centrally, served to millions | Cloud platform |
| Online multiplayer games | Game state and saved progress kept on remote servers | Cloud gaming/services |
What makes all of these "cloud": you need only a browser/app and an Internet connection; the provider owns and maintains the hardware; your data is available from any device, anywhere; and the service scales to millions of users without you doing anything.
Commonly used cloud-based services include Gmail, Google Drive/OneDrive/Dropbox/iCloud, Google Docs/Office 365, Google Photos, YouTube/Netflix/Spotify, WhatsApp backups, Google Meet/Zoom and DIKSHA — in each case the data and software reside on the provider's remote servers and are accessed on demand over the Internet.
