Raoult's Law relates the vapour pressure of a component in solution to its mole fraction and its pure-component vapour pressure.

Raoult's Law (for a solution of volatile liquids):

For a solution containing two or more volatile (miscible) liquid components, the partial vapour pressure of each component in the solution is directly proportional to its mole fraction present in solution.

For a binary solution of components 1 and 2:

p1=x1p1∘p2=x2p2∘p_1 = x_1 p_1^{\circ} \qquad p_2 = x_2 p_2^{\circ}

where p1∘p_1^{\circ} and p2∘p_2^{\circ} are the vapour pressures of the pure components, and x1x_1, x2x_2 are their mole fractions in the solution. The total vapour pressure of the solution is:

ptotal=p1+p2=x1p1∘+x2p2∘p_{total} = p_1 + p_2 = x_1 p_1^{\circ} + x_2 p_2^{\circ}

Raoult's Law as a special case (solution of a non-volatile solute in a volatile solvent): …
