The difference lies in what the DOMAIN is allowed to be — a real function additionally restricts the domain to real numbers.

A function f:X→Yf: X \to Y is called a real valued function if its range (the set of values it takes) is a subset of R\mathbb{R}, i.e. f(x)∈Rf(x) \in \mathbb{R} for every xx in the domain XX. Here the domain XX can be ANY set at all — it need not consist of real numbers (for example, XX could be a set of ordered pairs, or a set of matrices).

A function f:X→Yf: X \to Y is called a real function if it is real valued AND, in addition, its domain XX is itself a subset of R\mathbb{R}. So f:X→Rf: X \to \mathbb{R} where X⊆RX \subseteq \mathbb{R}.
