Value added = output − intermediate; sum net value added; merit = no double counting.

Value addition is the net contribution a producing unit makes to the value of output = Value of Output − Value of Intermediate Consumption.

Value-added (product) method of national income:

  1. Identify all producing units and group them into sectors (primary, secondary, tertiary).
  2. Find the Gross Value Added at MP of each (output − intermediate consumption).
  3. Sum them to get GDP at MP, then deduct depreciation and net indirect taxes and add net factor income from abroad to arrive at National Income (NNP at FC). (Only the value added at each stage is counted, not the full value of output.) …
