Free atomic (nascent) hydrogen is more reactive than H₂ because it needs no bond-breaking energy, so it reduces more strongly.

From NCERT Class 11 Chemistry (Hydrogen):

Molecular hydrogen H₂ has a strong H–H covalent bond (bond dissociation enthalpy ≈ 436 kJ/mol). Before H₂ can act as a reducing agent, this bond must be broken, which requires energy — so H₂ is comparatively sluggish.
