Advertising is impersonal, mass, media-based promotion, while personal selling is direct, two-way, face-to-face persuasion — two key differences being the personal contact and the feedback they allow.

Both are elements of the promotion mix in BSEB Class-12 Business Studies, but they work very differently.

Nature of contact / coverage: Advertising is an impersonal form of communication delivered to a large, scattered audience at the same time through media such as television, newspapers and the internet.
