MOET = Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer Technology, used to multiply superior cattle rapidly by hormone-induced super-ovulation and embryo transfer to surrogate cows.

MOET is a programme for herd improvement in cattle breeding.

Procedure:

  • A cow of high quality (high milk yield or superior genetic worth) is administered hormones, with FSH-like activity, to induce follicular maturation and super-ovulation, so that instead of one egg it produces 6 to 8 or more eggs in one cycle.
  • The cow is either mated with an elite bull or artificially inseminated.
  • The fertilised eggs (embryos) at the 8 to 32 cell stage are recovered non-surgically and transferred to surrogate (foster) mothers.
