Curie's law states that the magnetisation (or susceptibility) of a paramagnetic substance is directly proportional to the applied magnetic field and inversely proportional to its absolute temperature: χ=C/T\chi = C/T.

Curie's law describes the behaviour of paramagnetic materials. Experimentally, the intensity of magnetisation MM acquired by a paramagnetic sample is directly proportional to the applied magnetic field BB and inversely proportional to the absolute (Kelvin) temperature TT:

M∝BT.M \propto \frac{B}{T}.

Equivalently, in terms of magnetic susceptibility χ\chi:

χ=CT,\chi = \frac{C}{T},

where CC is a constant called the Curie constant and TT is the absolute temperature.
