A human sperm is a highly specialised, motile cell with three structural regions — head, middle piece, and tail — each adapted for fertilisation and motility. (Since this platform cannot render a hand-drawn figure, the structure is described here region by region exactly as it should be labelled in your diagram.)

Draw an elongated cell about 60 µm long, divided into three clearly labelled parts:

1. Head

  • Flattened, oval-shaped region.
  • Contains a haploid nucleus with tightly condensed chromatin (23 chromosomes).
  • Covered anteriorly by a cap-like structure, the acrosome, derived from the Golgi apparatus and filled with hydrolytic enzymes (like hyaluronidase and acrosin). The acrosome helps the sperm penetrate the egg's protective layers (corona radiata and zona pellucida) during fertilisation.

2. Neck and Middle piece

  • Immediately behind the head lies a short neck containing the centrioles (proximal and distal), important for cell division after fertilisation.
  • The middle piece that follows has numerous mitochondria arranged spirally around the axial filament — these generate the ATP that powers the sperm's swimming motion. …
