Applying IUPAC coordination-compound naming rules (ligands alphabetically, then metal with its oxidation state) to each complex.

IUPAC naming rules for coordination compounds:

  1. Name ligands first, in alphabetical order, each with the appropriate multiplying prefix (di, tri… for simple ligands like Cl-, NH3, H2O).
  2. Anionic ligands take an '-o' ending (chlorido for Cl-); neutral ligands mostly keep their name (ammine for NH3, aqua for H2O).
  3. Name the central metal atom, followed by its oxidation state in Roman numerals in brackets.
  4. If the whole species is a complex ion named alone (not a full salt), add 'ion' at the end.

(i) [Pt(NH3)2Cl2]:

  • Ligands: 2 NH3 (ammine) + 2 Cl- (chlorido), alphabetically 'ammine' before 'chlorido'.
  • Pt oxidation state: charge on complex = 0 (neutral); 2 Cl- contribute -2, so Pt = +2.
  • Name: diamminedichloridoplatinum(II)

(ii) [Cr(NH3)3Cl3]: …
