Faraday's two laws of electrolysis relate the mass of a substance produced at an electrode to the quantity of electricity passed, and to the substance's chemical equivalent weight.

Faraday's First Law of Electrolysis: The mass (m) of a substance deposited or liberated at an electrode during electrolysis is directly proportional to the quantity of electricity (charge, Q) passed through the electrolyte.

m proportional to Q, i.e., m = Z x Q = Z x I x t

where I = current in amperes, t = time in seconds, and Z = electrochemical equivalent of the substance (the mass deposited by passing 1 coulomb of charge).
