Phyllotaxy refers to the mode of arrangement of leaves on a stem or a branch.

Leaves are borne on the stem/branches at nodes in a definite, characteristic order — this arrangement is termed phyllotaxy. There are mainly three types: (1) Alternate phyllotaxy — a single leaf arises at each node, alternately on either side (e.g., China rose, mustard, sunflower). (2) Opposite phyllotaxy — a pair of leaves arises at each node, opposite to each other (e.g., Calotropis, guava).
