Fix the mass of carbon at 12 g in each case:
- In CO (12 g C + 16 g O), the mass of oxygen combining with 12 g of carbon = 16 g.
- In CO (12 g C + 32 g O), the mass of oxygen combining with 12 g of carbon = 32 g.
