This is a classic acyl-chloride-to-amide-to-amine route: an acid chloride reacts with ammonia to give an amide, and that amide, treated with Br2/KOH (Hofmann bromamide degradation), loses one carbon to give a primary amine with one carbon fewer — here, aniline.

A + aqueous NH3 → B: A = benzoyl chloride, C6H5COCl, reacts readily with ammonia at room temperature:
