Half-life measures how fast a reaction consumes its reactant; order of reaction describes how rate depends on concentration.

(a) Half-life (t1/2t_{1/2}): The half-life of a reaction is the time required for the concentration of a reactant to be reduced to exactly one-half of its initial value. For example, if [A]0[A]_0 is the initial concentration, t1/2t_{1/2} is the time at which [A]=[A]0/2[A] = [A]_0/2. Its dependence on initial concentration differs by order (e.g. for a first order reaction, t1/2=0.693/kt_{1/2} = 0.693/k, independent of initial concentration).
