For a zero order reaction, rate = k, so k carries the same units as rate: mol L⁻¹ time⁻¹.

For a general reaction of order nn, the rate law is Rate=k[A]nRate = k[A]^n, and by dimensional analysis:

k=Rate[A]n  ⇒  units of k=(mol L−1)1−ntime−1k = \dfrac{Rate}{[A]^n} \;\Rightarrow\; \text{units of } k = (mol\,L^{-1})^{1-n} time^{-1}

For a zero order reaction, n=0n = 0, so:

Rate=k[A]0=kRate = k[A]^0 = k
