In an isothermal process, temperature is held constant (dT=0); for an ideal gas this means internal energy does not change, so all heat absorbed is converted into work done by the system.

A process is called isothermal when it takes place at a constant temperature, i.e., the temperature of the system does not change during the process (T = constant, dT = 0). This is achieved by carrying out the process slowly enough, and in good thermal contact with a large reservoir (constant-temperature bath), so that any heat generated or absorbed is exchanged with the surroundings fast enough to keep the system's temperature fixed.
