Issue of shares at premium means shares are issued at a price above their face value, with the excess credited to Securities Premium Reserve.

Explanation

When a company is confident of investor demand (due to its reputation, profitability, or growth prospects), it can issue its shares at a price higher than the nominal value printed on the share certificate. The excess of the issue price over the nominal/face value is called the premium.

Example: A share of ₹10 face value issued at ₹12 is issued at a premium of ₹2 (20%).
