Account opened on dissolution to find profit/loss on realising assets and paying liabilities.

When a firm is dissolved, a Realisation Account is prepared. All assets (except cash/bank and fictitious assets) are transferred to its debit at book value and all outside liabilities to its credit. Amounts actually realised from assets are credited and amounts paid to settle liabilities and realisation expenses are debited. The balancing figure is the profit or loss on realisation, shared by partners in their profit-sharing ratio.
