An equipotential surface is a locus of points all at the same electric potential; its two defining properties follow directly from the relation between field and potential.

DEFINITION: An equipotential surface is a surface such that the electric potential V has the same value at every point on it. For a single point charge, equipotential surfaces are concentric spheres centred on the charge; for a uniform field, they are planes perpendicular to the field lines.
