WDV @10%. Machine I cost 30,000 (incl. installation); sold 30-9-2018 for 22,000 at a loss of Rs 1,085. Machine II 20,000, WDV 18,000. Machinery A/c totals tie at 44,300 in the final year.

Workings

  • Machine I cost = 28,000 + 2,000 installation = 30,000 (1-4-2016).
  • 2016-17 dep = 30,000 x 10% = 3,000 → WDV 27,000.
  • 2017-18 dep = 27,000 x 10% = 2,700 → WDV 24,300.
  • 2018-19: dep to date of sale (1-4-2018 to 30-9-2018 = 6 months) = 24,300 x 10% x 6/12 = 1,215 → book value at sale = 24,300 – 1,215 = 23,085. Sold for 22,000 → loss 1,085.
  • Machine II (1-4-2018) cost 20,000; dep for full year = 2,000 → WDV 18,000.
