Negative correlation means two variables move in opposite directions (one up, the other down). Example: price and quantity demanded.

In 1st PUC Economics (Correlation), correlation measures the relationship between two variables. It is called negative (inverse) correlation when the two variables move in opposite directions — an increase in one variable is associated with a decrease in the other, and vice versa. The correlation coefficient in such a case lies between 0 and −1.
