[!TLDR]

Torque is the turning effect of a force about an axis of rotation, defined as τ = r × F, with magnitude τ = rF sinθ, where r is the position vector from the axis to the point of application of force F. Relation to angular momentum: Angular momentum is L = r × p. Differentiating with respect to time: dL/dt = (dr/dt × p) + (r × dp/dt) = (v × mv) + (r × F). Since v × mv = 0 (v is parallel to itself), dL/dt = r × F = τ. Hence torque equals the rate of change of angular momentum: τ = dL/dt.
