Order is an experimental quantity (can be 0, fractional or integral) for the overall reaction; molecularity is a theoretical whole number defined only for an elementary step.

Two differences between order and molecularity of a reaction:

Order of reactionMolecularity of reaction
It is the sum of the powers of the concentration terms in the experimentally determined rate law.It is the number of reacting species (atoms, ions or molecules) that must collide simultaneously in an elementary step.
Determined experimentally; it can be zero, fractional or a whole number.A theoretical quantity; it is always a whole number (1,2,3…1, 2, 3\ldots) and can never be zero or fractional.
