Simple aggregate price index = (ΣP1 / ΣP0) x 100 = (100/50) x 100 = 200.

In the Kerala Plus One (DHSE) economics chapter on Index Numbers, the simple (unweighted) aggregate price index adds up the current-year prices and the base-year prices of all items and expresses the first as a percentage of the second.

Formula: P01 = (ΣP1 / ΣP0) x 100.

Working:

ItemP1 (current)P0 (base)
Rice4020
Wheat2010
Sugar105
Pulses3015
Total10050
  • ΣP1 = 40 + 20 + 10 + 30 = 100 …
