In the Kerala Plus One (DHSE) economics chapter on Presentation of Data, a simple (one-dimensional) bar diagram shows one variable using bars of equal width, spaced equally, with height proportional to the value represented.
Steps to draw it:
- Draw two axes. Mark the years (1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010) at equal intervals on the horizontal (X) axis.
- Choose a suitable scale on the vertical (Y) axis for production in tonnes (e.g. 1 cm = 40 tonnes), so the largest value (200) fits.
- Erect one bar of equal width above each year, leaving equal gaps between bars.
Bar heights:
| Year | Production (tonnes) | Bar height |
|---|---|---|
| 1990 | 140 | 140 |
| 1995 | 100 | 100 |
| 2000 | 80 | 80 |
| 2005 | 200 | 200 |
