Thermoacidophiles and halophiles are two groups of extremophilic archaebacteria, adapted to hot-acidic and hyper-saline environments respectively.

Archaebacteria (Archaea) are a distinct group of prokaryotes, differing from true (eu)bacteria in their cell-wall chemistry, and are notable for surviving extreme, harsh habitats.

(a) Thermoacidophiles are archaebacteria that thrive in habitats which are simultaneously very hot AND highly acidic — for example, hot sulphur springs and hydrothermal vents, where the temperature can exceed 80 °C and the pH may be as low as 2. A well-known example is Sulfolobus, found in acidic hot springs.
