(i) Use equality of ordered pairs component-wise. (ii) ∣A×A∣=9⇒∣A∣=3|A \times A| = 9 \Rightarrow |A| = 3; the two given elements pin down all three members of AA.

(i) Two ordered pairs are equal iff their corresponding components are equal. Given (x+1,y−4)=(3,7)(x+1, y-4) = (3, 7):

x+1=3⇒x=2x + 1 = 3 \Rightarrow x = 2

y−4=7⇒y=11y - 4 = 7 \Rightarrow y = 11

(ii) Since A×AA \times A has 99 elements and ∣A×A∣=∣A∣2|A \times A| = |A|^2, we get ∣A∣2=9|A|^2 = 9, so ∣A∣=3|A| = 3.
