The parallelogram law says two vectors drawn as adjacent sides of a parallelogram from a common point combine into a resultant given by the diagonal from that same point, with magnitude √(P² + Q² + 2PQcosθ).

Statement: If two vectors acting simultaneously at a point can be represented, both in magnitude and direction, by the two adjacent sides of a parallelogram drawn from that point, then their resultant is completely represented, both in magnitude and direction, by the diagonal of the parallelogram passing through that same point.

Explanation: Let two vectors P and Q act at a point O, represented by sides OA and OB of a parallelogram OACB, with the angle between them being θ. Complete the parallelogram by drawing AC parallel to OB and BC parallel to OA. Then the diagonal OC (drawn from the same point O) represents the resultant vector R = P + Q, both in magnitude and direction.
