- Variation of velocity components at p, q, r, s (launch speed u at angle theta):
- Horizontal component ux = u cos theta: constant throughout, so it is the same (u cos theta) at all four points p, q, r and s (no horizontal force acts).
- Vertical component uy = u sin theta - g t: at p (rising) it is positive but decreasing; at q (apex) it is zero; at r (descending) it points downward and grows in magnitude; at s (lower on the descent) it is a still larger downward value. By symmetry, the downward vertical speed at a given height equals the upward speed at the same height on the way up. …
