In a zero order reaction, rate = k, so the units of k are the same as the units of rate: concentration per unit time.

A reaction is said to be of zero order if its rate does not depend on the concentration of the reactants at all, i.e. changing the reactant concentration has no effect on the rate.

For a zero order reaction: R → P

Rate = k [R]^0 = k

Since Rate = −d[R]/dt has units of (concentration)(time)^-1, and Rate = k here, the rate constant k must carry the same units:

Unit of k = mol L^-1 s^-1 (i.e., concentration × time⁻¹).
