a) i) Adsorption isotherm
An adsorption isotherm is the graph showing the variation in the amount of gas adsorbed (x/m, mass of adsorbate per gram of adsorbent) by a solid adsorbent with the equilibrium pressure of the gas, at a given CONSTANT temperature.
a) ii) Freundlich adsorption isotherm
x/m = k·P^(1/n)
where x = mass of gas adsorbed, m = mass of adsorbent, P = equilibrium pressure of gas, k and n are constants that depend on the nature of the adsorbent and gas at a given temperature (n > 1).
(Taking log of both sides gives the linear form: log(x/m) = log k + (1/n) log P.)
b) Characteristics of enzyme catalysis (any two)
- High specificity: an enzyme catalyses only one particular reaction or one type of reaction (i.e. it acts on a specific substrate) — unlike ordinary catalysts. …
