Gauss's law in magnetism states that the total magnetic flux through any closed surface is always zero, reflecting the fact that magnetic field lines always form closed loops and isolated magnetic monopoles have never been observed.

Statement: For any closed surface (a 'Gaussian surface'), the net magnetic flux through it is zero:

ϕB=∮B⃗⋅dA⃗=0\phi_B = \oint \vec{B}\cdot d\vec{A} = 0

Physical meaning: Unlike electric field lines, which start on positive charges and end on negative charges (so a closed surface enclosing a net charge has non-zero electric flux, by Gauss's law of electrostatics), magnetic field lines have no beginning and no end — they always form continuous closed loops (e.g. from the North pole, around outside, into the South pole, and back through the inside of the magnet to the North pole).
