Carboxylation of RuBP by RuBisCO produces two molecules of 3-phosphoglyceric acid (3-PGA), the first stable product of the Calvin cycle.

The Calvin cycle (C3 pathway) begins with carboxylation: the enzyme RuBisCO fixes one molecule of atmospheric CO2 onto the 5-carbon sugar ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP).
