Kepler's third law: T² ∝ a³ for every planet orbiting the Sun.

Kepler's third law of planetary motion (the law of periods) states that the square of the orbital time period T of a planet is directly proportional to the cube of the semi-major axis a of its elliptical orbit around the Sun:

T² ∝ a³, i.e., T²/a³ = constant (the same constant for all planets orbiting the Sun)

This can be derived for a circular orbit of radius r by equating the gravitational force to the centripetal force required for circular motion:

GMm/r² = mω²r = m(2π/T)² r

→ T² = (4π²/GM) r³ …
