A simple pendulum's time period, for small-angle oscillations, is T = 2pisqrt(L/g).

A simple pendulum is an idealised system consisting of a heavy point mass (bob) suspended from a rigid support by a light, inextensible, and perfectly flexible string, free to swing back and forth in a vertical plane about its equilibrium (mean) position.

Derivation of time period:

Let the pendulum of length L and bob mass m be displaced through a small angle theta from the vertical. The restoring force (component of gravity along the arc, tangential direction) is:

F = -mg sin(theta)

For small theta (in radians), sin(theta) is approximately theta = x/L (where x is the small arc displacement from the mean position). So:

F = -mg (x/L)
