Power, the rate of doing work, works out to P = F*v for a constant force F acting on an object moving with velocity v in the force's direction.

Power is defined as the rate at which work is done:

P = dW/dt

For a force F acting on an object that undergoes a small displacement ds in time dt, the work done is:

dW = F * ds (taking F along the direction of motion)

Substituting into the power expression:

P = dW/dt = F * (ds/dt)

Since ds/dt is simply the instantaneous velocity v of the object:

P = F * v
