External recruitment means looking outside the organisation for candidates. This includes advertising jobs in newspapers or online, hiring through placement agencies, campus placements, or walk-in interviews. Anyone from the general public who meets the qualifications can apply.
The NCERT textbook (Class 12 Business Studies, Chapter 6 — Staffing) clearly states: Internal recruitment is a source of recruitment that seeks applicants from within the organisation, while external recruitment seeks applicants from outside the organisation.
