Either the definition of a complex ion, or ionisation isomerism with an example (attempt any one, as offered).

(i) Complex ion:

A complex ion is an electrically charged species (cation or anion) in which a central metal atom or ion is surrounded by a fixed number of ions or neutral molecules (ligands) attached to it through coordinate (dative) covalent bonds. The overall charge on the ion is the algebraic sum of the charge on the metal and the charges on the ligands.

Examples: [Fe(CN)6]4- (ferrocyanide ion, complex anion), [Cu(NH3)4]2+ (tetraamminecopper(II) ion, complex cation).

OR (ii) Ionisation isomerism:

Ionisation isomers are coordination compounds having the identical molecular formula, but which ionise to give different ions in solution, because a ligand inside the coordination sphere and the counter ion outside it exchange places.

Example: [Co(NH3)5Br]SO4 and [Co(NH3)5SO4]Br …
