Closing Stock appearing inside the Trial Balance (rather than as a separate adjustment) signals that it has already been adjusted against Purchases — so it is shown only on the Asset side of the Balance Sheet, and is not entered again in the Trading Account.

Normally, when Closing Stock is given as an adjustment (outside the Trial Balance, typically in a footnote), it is shown in TWO places:

  1. On the credit side of the Trading Account (as it reduces the cost of goods sold for the year), and
  2. On the Asset side of the Balance Sheet (since unsold goods remain an asset of the business).

However, when Closing Stock already appears as one of the balances inside the Trial Balance itself, this specifically means that the bookkeeper has already passed an adjustment entry:
