Credit (non-cash) transactions are supported and recorded using Transfer Vouchers.

Source vouchers are of three kinds: Cash vouchers (for cash receipts/payments), Non-cash/Transfer vouchers (for transactions not involving cash), and Supporting vouchers.

When a fixed asset (say, furniture or machinery) is purchased on credit, no cash or bank account is affected at the time of purchase — so a cash voucher cannot be used. Instead, such a transaction is evidenced and recorded through a Transfer Voucher, prepared on the basis of the supplier's invoice/bill. The accounting entry passed from this voucher (directly in the Journal Proper, since neither the Cash Book nor a subsidiary book for goods applies) is:
