Quantitative classification = grouping data by a numerical/measurable variable (e.g. marks, age, income) into class intervals.

Quantitative classification refers to the classification of statistical data on the basis of a characteristic that is numerically measurable — such as age, height, weight, marks, or income — rather than a descriptive quality. The entire range of values (from the minimum to the maximum observed) is divided into a series of class intervals, and each observation is placed into the class interval within which its value falls.

Example: Suppose the marks obtained by 50 students (out of 100) are classified as follows:

Marks obtained (Class interval)Number of Students (f)
0 - 204
20 - 4010
40 - 6020
60 - 8012
