(a) Provision for Tax:

This represents the estimated amount of income tax payable on the current year's profits. Since it is normally payable/settled within 12 months, it is classified under:

Equity and Liabilities → Current Liabilities → Short-term Provisions

(b) Proposed Dividend:

As per the revised AS-4 (Contingencies and Events Occurring After the Balance Sheet Date), a dividend proposed/declared by the Board after the Balance Sheet date (pending shareholders' approval at the AGM) is not recognised as a liability in the Balance Sheet of that year — because the obligation to pay only arises once the dividend is approved in the Annual General Meeting, which happens after the year-end.

Under the current treatment, it is disclosed only as a note to accounts (an appropriation proposed to be made out of profit), and recognised as a liability only in the year in which it is actually declared/approved.
