The two standard ways to avoid double counting are the Final Output Method and the Value Added Method.

Double counting occurs when the value of a good is counted more than once while estimating national income -- once as an intermediate good and again as part of the final good's value. There are two alternative ways to avoid this:

Final Output (Final Product) Method: Only include the market value of FINAL goods and services produced in the economy in a given year, and exclude the value of all intermediate goods/raw materials used up in producing those final goods.
