A positive-feedback hormonal reflex, triggered near full term, that initiates labour and childbirth.

Towards the end of pregnancy (around nine months), signals originating from the fully developed foetus and the placenta bring about mild contractions of the uterus, referred to as the foetal ejection reflex. This reflex induces the release of the hormone oxytocin from the maternal pituitary gland.
