A charged body redistributes charge on a nearby neutral conductor without touching it.

When a charged body is brought near an (uncharged) conductor, the free electrons within the conductor experience a force from the charged body's electric field and redistribute themselves: if the external body is positively charged, free electrons in the conductor are attracted towards the near side, leaving the near surface negatively charged and the far surface positively charged (and vice versa for a negative external charge).
