Both a converging lens and a concave mirror turn an incident plane wavefront into a converging spherical wavefront.

(i) A convex lens with an incident plane wavefront: since a convex lens brings all incident parallel rays to converge at its focal point, the emerging wavefront (which must always be perpendicular to the rays) is a converging spherical wavefront, shrinking toward the focal point on the far side of the lens.
