Two circles are possible: centres (6,0)(6,0) or (−2,0)(-2,0), both radius 5.

Let the centre be (h,0)(h,0) since it lies on the xx-axis. The circle passes through (2,3)(2,3), so the distance from (h,0)(h,0) to (2,3)(2,3) equals the radius 5:

(h−2)2+(0−3)2=25(h-2)^2+(0-3)^2 = 25

(h−2)2+9=25(h-2)^2+9=25

(h−2)2=16(h-2)^2=16

h−2=±4⇒h=6 or h=−2.h-2=\pm4 \Rightarrow h=6\ \text{or}\ h=-2.
