Insulin is the body's principal hypoglycaemic hormone — it increases cellular glucose uptake, promotes glycogen and fat storage, and suppresses glucose-releasing pathways.

Insulin is a peptide hormone secreted by the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, and it is the chief hormone that lowers blood glucose level. Three of its key roles:
